This is some thing some of you may find of interest. I scanned this from some AMC gross sales figures I got from AMC in the early 1980s. I'm not quite sure were to put this so I'll put this here. The figures are from Automotive News and show average sales per dealership per year. If you take the average sales per year by dealership number and multiply it by the number of dealerships you get a pretty close figure to that year's sales for that manufacturer. What shows is that by 1980 AMC sales per dealership and the number of dealerships were dropping. The late 1970's and early 1980's were a time of another " RECESSION" similar to around 2008 era , also with unemployment running around 15%. Make of it what you will. LRDaum

Interesting to note that AMC began selling more Jeeps the cars in 1977?

AMC took no nosedive to make US military Hummer in 85, then Jeep Cherokee XJ... no need to pout about it... AMC was doing great things until the president of Renault got assainated...
