Any one else had this problem. Had my engine out to be rebuilt and my converter stall upped at the same time . When I got the converter back I put my flex plate on it and lined up the holes then sprayed painted through the hole in the flex plate to mark it. Installed engine and then installed converter making sure the paint lined up with the hole.  Put the first two bolts in no problem but the next two were 1/4 of hole out, no matter what I did it would not line up. So I figured that I Screwed up and got the converter in the wrong spot .  I rotated the converter around twice trying to get the holes to line up, no joy .Went back to the paint mark three times and the same problem.  I had put 12 hours into this by now and was thinking I would have to pull trans to figure it out . I tried one last time with the paint mark in the hole and all four bolts just went in like they were supposed to. Wonder just what was going on there  only thing I did differently was not tighten the bolts up when I put them in  but they were not more than finger tight all the other times. Makes you wonder some times.

We just did this on mine. Had similar issue. Our problem ended up being the engine on a bit of an angle to the trans.

Make sure that the torque convertor drain plug lines up with the flexplate inspection hole, if it does then I'd suggest starting each of the bolts partially and then progressively continue that until all are completely tight.

Is this a 727 or 400, if 400 make sure it has the pilot spacer or the converter wont be centered
