Cool model, but did they accurately replicate the Porsche flywheel?

Thanks for the link!
The models describe it as a ‘concept car’, but they built 5 or 6 running cars, so maybe my definition of a concept car is a bit different. To me, a concept car is a one-off and may or may not have a power train or be anything more than a clay model, so I would consider the AMX/3 an extremely low volume hand built production car. The Porsche flywheel makes it a true sports car, lol.

Hahahaha, that's funny guys. Porsche flywheel, just for the replicas. This model is a replica of the number two car. Originally red, it was the Monza high speed test car and I had the pleasure of speaking with two of the previous owners. It's a little sad to me that it is no longer the original red, but the color is beautiful and it did win it's class at Pebble Beach. So it's a good choice for a replica model. Here is a link to Curt Hall's website where you can find the most detailed and accurate information on these cars. Each car was unique and there are seven steel AMX'3's. Plus the fiberglass display body I have. Tom Also, here is a YouTube video where Curt and I discuss his website.

Who's the best with AMC engines these days? In California, I have no idea. The Forum's own Rick Jones (SC397) in Michigan is one of the "best", at least that I know of. More out your way, Dan Curtis of AZ Arizona AMC Restorations.

Tom's AMX/3 replica has a new home.
Currently looking things over to see what's needed and create a plan to get it built.

Victoria Vetri (AKA Angela Dorian) 1968 Playmate of the Year and Leon Apanas at 2022 Kenosha Homecoming. Awesome Leon! Thanks for posting those wonderful images. I would like to say a few words about what has transpired recently, well in the last three months. Leon Apanas is a long time AMC'er who many of you already know. His exploits are legendary, having owned a Scrambler or two and been in the hobby for more decades than me. Leon has purchased AMX/3 replica #1, the only original Dave Ward built chassis. Leon and I have recently spent some time together in his shop, before the chassis arrived, looking at his Pro Street AMX as well as his beautiful 1972 Ambassador station wagon that he took to the Kenosha homecoming this summer. The shop and tools combined with Leon's years of experience modifying AMC's make a perfect combination to bring the AMX/3 replica #1 further into development, as I should have done years ago. Leon is responsible for single handedly reviving the AMX/3 replica program. Not only is he the new owner of the body and chassis #1, but Leon has also reignited the fire with regards to the all important transaxle and Mike Mendoela is working on our adapters and clutch solution again, because of Leon's relentless drive. Thank you from the bottom of my heart Leon. I believe it is appropriate for Leon to continue this thread with development updates as we approach 100,000 views, currently (93732), I am always eager to see more images of the car and hear about all the clever tricks he is coming up with to make things work. Leon is a special guy in the AMC hobby and has some very special plans for this car. Congratulations Leon! There are now three of us with AMX/3 replicas. I do have a surprise of my own to share on another thread I started not long ago here in Member Projects called "AMX/3 Replica AMX390.com", so look for that too. Tom Dulaney PS I am not on Facebook, but I am on Parler and MeWe. Alex, I enjoyed meeting you at the AMC shows as well. You have brought many much needed reproduction parts to our hobby. I sent you an e-mail with some images yesterday. Edited by AMX390 - Aug/25/2022 at 10:55pm |

Started looking over the car, found a few things to fix.
The windshield opening is out of square, it was not repaired properly on the original pushmobile so when the mold was made the flaw followed. The doors are not the same length at the top. Will trim as needed to fix. Chassis needs to be stretched for more engine space. No room for accessories (alternator, water pump, power steering). Will need to run a dry sump pan. The pan in the photo is one inch deeper in the front than stock. The front tires on the car were on it only to move it around, will have to figure out what size will fit. Was planning to run a Whipple blower on the engine using the Mod-Man intake, no room there either. I knew before getting the car that the chassis would need to be stretched. Part of the plan is to use a cam belt drive made by Kevin. Figure I could make a plate to mount the accessories to save some space. I do have some options on what engine to build, will see how it goes.
