I'm not starting this topic to bash anyone. I have dealt with Robb for many years and I think he's a standup guy and a great asset for us AMCer's
I was wondering if anyone has had issues with these starters. I purchased one a while back and this is the third time it's given me problems. I'm sure Robb will make it right again but I just don't understand why I keep having issues. The first time was the starter would engage the gear but the gear would not turn. I sent it back and he fixed it and returned it. Second time was a fix for the bolts on the motor cover coming loose he fixed it for free and I also purchased a support cone for the gear to add strength. Third time was yesterday which was back to the first problem. It engaged the gear but would not turn the gear. I actually hung the gear in the flex plate and it sounded like I had a supercharger on the car. Everyone in the staging lanes didn't know what to think including me. This is getting really expensive for me to drive 90 miles to the track and make one run before I'm being towed away by a four wheeler. The first and third time were at the track after paying entry fee's and winching the car back on the trailer. I have read a few posts that mention good things about the starters with good results. I ran a Tilton for over 16 years and never had an issue along with a $149 Alterstart that I ran for 7 years flawlessly. I like to support the guys that support us but I can't keep going through this. This is the only starter that I found to fit my Doug's headers. It's wired the correct way that Robb said it to be wired and no more issues for this to happen. I will call Robb this week but I wanted to see if anyone had similar issues which might give me a good direction to go in. Thanks for any help in advance, Tim |

I feel the same way. I can't get another starter on mine without have a tube changed on my header. It would cost me a lot more to go this direction. I don't get it...it's a starter. I hope when I call Robb that we can find away to keep this from happening. |

not bashing either but my ROBBMC starter would do the same thing, engage the ring gear but not turn, acted like the engine was seized, what I did Tim was get under the car with a flat screw driver and rotate the engine an inch or 2 then it would wing right over like no body's business
I took it off and put it on the shelf to try on another build I got going on, and hope that it works with that one, hate to be out $316.00 for a starter when I got another one, different brand for under $150.00 and it works flawlessly. Norm |

Did you check out the PowerMaster 9515? It's shorter than the RobbMC and clockable. May be an option (mine's been fine for years and can R&R the starter without removing header ... but running Hooker 7103s).
Hope this helps, RD.

When I had my stuck solenoid episode (Golden Hook Thread), I couldn't wait for Robb to fix mine, so I went with the powermaster also. I had to remove the strut rod bracket and strut rod to swap them without removing the header (Heddman 1 5/8), but the PM is a bit smaller. I suspect my issue with RobbMC starter was a bad (stuck) fender solenoid, but Robb fixed my starter for a minimal fee after I burned it up. I haven't switched it back yet -- too much work and the PM one is working fine. |

I wonder if it has to do with the teeth whether you are using stock or aftermarket. Hopefully it works with my steel centerforce.

I am also guessing this is a GEN II starter being it has the gear support as I dont think the GENI had that option.
I have a GEN I on the car and never had an issue. Have a GEN II on thew shelf as a back up or other project.
