Talk to a guy here that rebuilds trans and asked how much it would cost to rebuild a 998 trans. With taxes in about 2000.00 to me that seems a little high What do you think let me know Bob

I had my 727 done last year for 1300.00. 2000 is the going price here (NW Wa) for a 4 speed auto.

That is very high!! I have done lots of Chrysler Torqueflights over the years for both pentastar and AMC. You can get a kit for less then $100 US from Rock Auto of buy the top end kit with performance inners from Summit or the like shop. Hard parts rarely go bad, if so they are relatively cheap new and used. You can buy a reman Torque Converter for less then $100 at a NAPA or Canadian Tire, or buy new for a coule of hundred. I am not sure how handy you are but if you have the factory Technical Manual for 1973, the trans overhaul section is very good. You might need help changing a few bushings and the like but a small labor time from you will yield great savings. While you have aprat you can even put a shift kit in for $30-$40 bucks for the parts, if you buy one of the Good kits from Summit, it will come with a shift kit.

First, what part of Canada? Second, maybe pick up a spare trans and take a stab at doing it yourself? They are one of the simplest automatics to do if you can remember what part came from where as you take it apart. Third, what's wrong with the current one? Often people think the trans is bad when it's an adjustment issue. Fourth, are you taking it out/reinstalling? I worked for several shops in BC before I hung my own shingle out. I reported the last one I worked at for defrauding customers (metal shavings dumped in the dipstick tube and pan to show the customer "it's shot and you need a new one") and got blackballed as a mechanic back in '80.

Sherlock...doesn't that name have great detective capacity?? If you have the manual it is really simple, you just need a really clean area, a couple of gallons of Mineral Spririts to clean with, a plastic pan to contain the mess, torque wrench, etc. I tought my 16 son to do a 727, before you totally deny, look at the manual there is alot of great pics.

I think it is high. I paid $2000 to rebuild an electronic automatic overdrive including a new converter and removing it and installing it in a 4 wheel drive vehicle.

You can buy one from TCI or Hughes in street strip form with converter for that much, Shipped to your door. Even if that price includes R&R labor we are talking and hour at most in and out.
