OK, so I heard that 64-69 Rambler American bumpers are similar front to back with the exception of some details, and it appears that the front/rear bumpers of my '63 classic are very similar... So I was wondering if the 64-69 American bumpers and the '63 Classic bumpers are the same?? I know that the two models share the same door skin, so i wouldn't be too surprised if they also shared some other parts... Anybody know??
Thanks! Graham |

Don't know about the interchange. Front and rear American bumpers are the same basic stamping with bolt hole differences. The front (each side) has three bolts on the face and the rear has two bolts on the face and one on the end of the bumper. The light holes are the same but the light buckets have different sockets; the front being for double filament bulbs and the rear being single filament bulbs. On a 63 car, you might have had a rear bumper without backup light holes. On later models without backup lights, blank covers were installed in the holes.

The Classic bumpers are different than the American ones. The Classic is a slightly wider car and the frame rails are spaced farther apart than the American. The front and rear bumper stampings on a Classic are the same but just like the American there are differences in the bolt holes.

Here's the difference in the bolt mounts, front to rear on a 64-69 American.
I run two 64 rear bumpers on my 69 to ditch the factory light holes. Yes classic bumpers are wider. |

Yea, I love them. Long time dream to use the two 64 rear bumpers to get this look. Could not believe when I actually found one N.O.S. and one driver quality re-chrome! Each bumper cost me the exact same $225 too! |
