Without milling the top of the valve guide, the limit is right around .500" on a stock head. You can have any machine shop mill the guide for whatever lift you're running. Get them set up for positive seals at the same time. Bob tufcj |

JD Payton got cast heads to 0.700" lift. Likely 090's but not positive. 390, 401 crankshaft, dog leg heads, flowed 279/210.
The engine only made 322 HP, wasted $$$. They changed out the camshaft or camshaft and rockers to something like 0.580" lift, bumped up compression and ended up with a 500 HP engine. Don't see the point of highest lift except bragging rights. |

depends on how you plan to drive the vehicle, with a street car, it's area under the curve that sees most of the use. max lift hardly comes into play
drag car you can go big lift to brag

Back on topic, impressive Hurst.
Rough go at the math, 300 CFM 64 cc well worked heads, running 14.5:1 to 15:1 SCR, 13:1 DCR, 104 LC cam 240 to 250@0.050, flat top pistons, stroked 390/401, at least 0.030" over and more likely 0.45" over, valves clear the pistons quite well (surprised at this), shifting at 6800 RPM. Shot of nitros 4500-5000 RPM? Likely the need for the 0.800" lift otherwise it would not be required. Would not recommend this for a street build. But for it's intended purpose, well built!
