Anyone know the torque spec for the thermostat neck mounting bolts for a 343 (assuming 360 is the same)? My 1967 TSM is in a box in storage, so I can't reference it. I have 24 ft-lbs in my head, but that could be too much.

I WON'T say with 100 % Accuracy, but a Couple of Months back, I did one on a Cast Int., & went with, 12 or Maybe 13 Feet.... NO Problems, or Leaks at all.
HOPE it helps. ME |

67 Marlin - 10 - 15 pound feet it says in the 1969 TSM.
Opinion, first fill coolant system with only strait plane distilled water and heat cycle the engine a couple few times first to ensure or at least increase the chances of a leak free seal. Only after doing that, then drain some water and add the "mouse oil" nasty glycol anti-freeze... This also helps a new water pump shaft seal to "seat-in" imho. And in the event that there is a leak, much more pleasant to deal with if only plain water in the system. Peace

Thank you gents. PHAT, that technique is great info and reaffirming; just what I did when swapping the intake. That sealed up, and so did the thermostat housing. Of course a hundred miles later, the thermostat starts sticking, and I deleted the picture I took of my TSM when I torqued it in the first place. I knew I should have bought that Robert Shaw unit to go along with a new intake. Oh well, now I've got one, and I'd rather replace the thermostat 10 times instead of the intake, so I'll consider it a good deal.
