I believe the 327 in my 62 Ambassador has the common timing chain slip due to the nylon teeth on the camshaft gear. After replacing points, cap, condenser, rotor, coil, plugs and wires, I got it running but it ran very rough and backfired. Managed to check the timing and dwell. Dwell was way low like 5 degrees and timing was off considerably. I rotated the distributor as far ccw as I could and the timing mark would get a bit closer but still far from the pointer.
I'm pretty sure this is the problem but would like some opinions from others who have had to replace the timing gear set for this engine. Thank you in advance. Mike

It sounds like a bad condenser or bad condenser ground and or connection.
I doubt the timing chain is the issue.

Even with the new condensor it ran for awhile then had no spark. I put the old one back in and it started and again ran rough. The new one could have been bad also? I should try another new condensor before ripping everything apart. Thanks Boris.

Try pulling the fuel pump off and get a look at timing set. U can confirm if it's still nylon gear and if teeth missing. A bore scope helps if u have one.

Thanks, didn't know about seeing the gear teeth from there. Might try that.
