I'm adding A/C to my 1973 Javelin AMX and received a good quality donor system from a 73. Everything has gone together well except I tried to put the two cables on the defrost flap and A/C control and find that the cable ends are too small to fit on the end. Can anyone tell me if I have the wrong cables? They look long enough and fit on controller switch just fine. Can I have the wrong cables? The two going to the heater heater side work fine.

Hey Jack - I found you!
This way we can talk and post pics and such without eBay interrupting. They don't like communication outside of eBay, which makes it hard to work through complicated stuff sometimes. Now when you say the "heater side" you're talking about the section of heater box under the passenger side dash, correct? That makes sense, as the temp and recirc air cables are the same between AC and non AC cars. You should need just two cables then, for defrost and floor heat, both of which go over to the left side of the center evaporator housing. Let me hunt down some pics and post them and we can go from there.

Ok, here's a pic of both boxes (on the hood of a Pacer) that I nabbed off ebay. It sounds like you need the two cables off to the far left.
The parts book says that the 1973 with AC uses the same defrost cable and and floor heat cable as the 1971 and 1972 with AC. With that in mind you would need a defrost cable that has a large loop at the defrost arm end, and you'd need a cable with a short slot end for the floor heat lever. Here's a pic of a 1971 AC box showing those two cables: Here's a closeup of that slot end: |

Thanks so much for finding me! You hit the nail on the head! The last picture shows the cables that I'm looking for. They are much different than the two I have. As you know the defroster arm is much larger than the rest. It looks like the other cable has a special end on it. Can you make these?
Regards, Jack

Yep, I can make those for you. I'll pm you with pricing and payment details.
AMC used two different slot ends like that one, a short one and a long one. I 3D print them in ABS plastic and embed the cable wire into the plastic by heating the wire. I also include a flat washer of the correct size to fit on the shaft and bear against the slot end. I don't have any of the clips though - that's something I need to look into.

Thanks for checking into this. It really helps. Please send me PM at jac580_1@yahoo.com and let me know the cost and how you would like to get paid. I haven't tested the vac motor yet, but probably need that rebuilt also. Thanks for the information and contact.
