Is there a tool that will check cubic inch displacement by using the spark plug hole, without removing the heads to measure the bore & stroke?
If so, where is the best place for me to find one of these tools ? What do you call it ?
My block is a 401 but I found some interesting marks when cleaning the engine and I'd like to know if it has been de-stroked to 304, etc.. Or, is the only way by removing the head to measure bore and stroke ? Thanks Mike |

It's normally referred to as a swept volume test and is a common test in motorsports to prevent cheating.
This is a fairly expensive test rig, probably cheaper options out there: https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Speedway-Engine-Cubic-Inch-Tester-Tool,703.html Edited by WesternRed - Nov/15/2020 at 11:14pm |

You could probably make something fairly cheaply to do the job.
