Here's a great longform article which discusses the story of AMC from its very earliest days. I'd never run across the article before and it proved very interesting indeed. It traces the stories of Rambler, Nash, and Hudson through their independent days up to the merger in 1957 that created American Motors, and follows the familiar journey of AMC to the bitter end of the Chrysler merger.
It's a nice companion piece to the very good book American Motors Corporation: The Rise and Fall of America's Last Independent Automaker, by Patrick Foster. The book basically starts with the Nash-Kelvinator/Hudson merger, while the article gives quite a bit more background information. Both are very worthwhile reads. https://oppositelock.kinja.com/amc-the-struggle-for-survival-1822600565 - https://oppositelock.kinja.com/amc-the-struggle-for-survival-1822600565 by Jamie McManus https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/american-motors-corporation-patrick-r-foster/1114566468?ean=9780760344255 - https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/american-motors-corporation-patrick-r-foster/1114566468?ean=9780760344255 by Patrick Foster |
