Hey guys and gals, got kind of a weird one for you. Since a real AMX grill set are Waaaaaaaay out of my budget. I'm going to make one of my own. Well that's the theory any how. But since I don't have access to one, I was hoping that some nice AMX owner might help me out.

I need this stuff on the outer front, mesh grill. Not the 71 style back grill. What I need is good pics of a real one. And if I can get measurements of the outer edge. And measurements from the outer trim to the lights. Top bottom. And side. And I need to know how thick the outer aluminum trim is.

I want to get this as close to the real ones as I can. But I'll just use fiber glass or something to build up a back area to bridge the gap between the headlights and this grill. So any good close ups and measurements would be great.

I want to make one for now and eventually swap out to a real one. Or if some one has a bent up wrecked one they could let go cheap I could use it as reference, or try to fix it. Let me know thanks guys.

Just so you know, your original grill and headlight surrounds do not match the AMX wire mesh screen.

You would be better off using your existing stuff and making a mesh screen overlay.

If hard up for an original mesh screen look, then you need a set of headlight surrounds to fit properly along the mesh grill lines.

I knew it wouldn't fit over my existing grill. What I was planning to do was use my current black headlight surrounds. Then make the mesh grill using dimensions of a stock grill, If I can get them. Then custom making something to bridge the gap between the grill and the headlight bezels. The custom part would also be made so that it matched up with the standard grill brace for mounting it.

I'm just trying to get as stock of a look as I can, without the stock parts. I can make almost anything given measurements and references. May not be exactly right up close. But from a few feet away it will look good.

Here are some pics  I took that may help. The grill is not the same width all the way across. It tapers toward the ends. I can get more dimensions if you need.

Since it tapers can you get one from top to bottom in the center of the grill and one all the way across? That would have me set. Then I can start the fab work. Than you.

Hey Shannock, do you by chance have an all the way across measurement? From left to right? That would give me everything I need to start on this.

Yup, here's the bottom measurement. Good luck with this grill. I'm sure we would be glad to see how it turns out.

Now all he needs is center to corner measurement. As the grill is angled, to be pointed like the hood'hoods nose, as well.
