Hi just chiming in here, On my front engine support there was several holes where i could mount the rubber cushions, have you check
 edt to see if there is more ways to place those?

As far as the advice needed for the break in, I've calmed down about the urgency of the rusting damage issue, the builder assured me he used the proper assemble special lubricant and the parts that needed it were protected, that and also my own things I did like oiling what I could and using fogging oil, lots of it have calmed my nerves.

Another question came to mind.... Does it matter what type of gas I should use for the break in and regular engine use?

I use regular gas. Ethanol added here in Colorado USA.

Well, went ahead with the first start up attempt today, bit didn't get it running, we tried for about two hours, did all sorts of stuff, moved the dissy around, checked the point gap, tried the coke on the carb, tried other things on the carb....didn't start.
I dought it would have started even if I had a snow cozy. Anyways, I used reg gas. It back fired a lot... The gas was being added manually as the throttle linkage is not set up yet, treid pouring in a little bit of gas to start, then when my dad was working with it he was pouring in alot more then I was and still no start. He thinks it's either the distributor somehow or the carb, which has had the choke housing chopped off it prob to make room for the air filter housing. I have a brand new unused unadjusted carb, but didn't think to use it since it's unadjusted. The throttle will have to be made, I was looking at tomj's throttle set up and it looks like a small cable is primarily being used to connect the throttle to the gas pedal but it ends up sideways as the carb sits sideways on his intake plate, I'll have to figure that out, I think I can do it without getting a new gas pedal in the rambler if he did. The rotor was facing the #1 plug tower, the new points were gapped to tsm specs, new spark plugs torqued to tsm specs and also gapped to tsm specs, new spark plug wire, no cracks in the dist cap, new rotor, harmonic balancer was set to 5degrees btdc apparently (as the disc can slip sometimes and the marks may be off) #1 cyl on a compression stroke.... We were stumped! |

Huh? What's with the other posts, no gas, etc? Back-firing is: air plus fuel plus spark so all other things being OK spark timing is the issue. Can I suggest you slow down with the posting, put it all in ONE thread, and not all over the place? It's too hard to follow what's going on. |
