My son is trying to order wheels for his 79 CJ project. He's settled on simple steel round or "D" shaped holes in 15x8" I'll bet he's tried Summit, Jegs, Quadratrac and a couple of others and they're all saying out of stock.

The thing I don't get is if you just do a search for 15x8, 5x5.5 BC with a 4.28" hub and 3.75 backspacing they're available. If you ask for a 79 CJ, which are the same specs, no luck or they say they don't fit.

What am I missing?

Well after more digging and finding a wheel spec chart, it looks like the issue is the 4.28" or 108mm center hole. I never dawned on me that older Jeeps and Suzuki Samurais are the only ones with it and the Suzuki has metric studs.

Apparently a lot of places aren't stocking or can't get inexpensive steel wheels for these anymore.

Who would have ever thunk it???

Try '86 CJ in your search. Also Ford full size shares the pattern.

There are many with the 5x5.5" but it's the center hole. I found some sites that listed some F150s Ford Vans and Dodge 1500 as fitting but when you look at the specs the center hole is too small. The Jeep hub is 4.25"

He bought a set from Quadratrac that was supposed to fit but the center is too small. Free shipping here, but 130 to send them back

I put the '79 Bronco ones on my '73 J4000, then they went on the '68 Travelall which both have the same hubs.
