Basically, there are multiple concerns with the new pumps. Some have had the internal seal become dislodged and allow fuel to get into the engine oil. There have also been reports of the pump arm breaking. I haven't personally had either issue, but have read several comments on this.
There should be a part number stamped on the pump. Mine was stamped on the flange where it bolts up to the engine. With the part number, you can call a vendor for replacement parts. I googled 'fuel pump rebuild' and am working with a guy in Florida to get mine rebuilt (I forgot the company name, I can post it later). Mike |

A recent phone call to Blasers Nash Rambler AMC Parts in Moline Illinois ( 309 ) 764-3571 , blaserauto(dot)com
yielded verbal comments that hey have "modern swaged" replacement type AMC V8 Fuel Pumps for $47 that are "professional grade" rather than "service grade" or "economy grade" and are sourced by Blasers Auto from, and a product of, a United States of America Company, they are NOT imported. Blasers may also offer a re-build yours and return service via the same company, call and ask'em.

the picture that you posted is what PHAT calls the "Standard" Pump. It has 1/8 NPT for the inlet and outhlet and 12 screws holding it together. If your pump has 1/4 NPT fittings and 6 screws holding it together then it is superior "Performance" pump. rebuild kits are available from the ford guys. https://www.cjponyparts.com/67-and-up-carter-fuel-pump-rebuild-428cj-scj-boss-302-429cj-boss-429-429scj-1967/p/AFP67/
MY pump did exactly as you say, started leaking fuel out the weep hole. The problem is a hole in the diaphragm. Mine was actually working fine, just leaking. the pump arm from the good pump can be swapped to a new pump intended for an FE ford. the pump is the same, only the arm is different. The "freeze plug" is actually a plug that holds in the pivot pin. Remove that, remove the pin, and the arm comes out. Google carter fuel pump rebuild videos and yo will get a better description. Whatever you do don't let a good pump arm out of your sight. |

Thank you sir, yes 6 screws and 1/4 npt ports. Pump works just fine, just weeps like yours. So looks like a rebuild kit is in order then. I figured the "freeze" plug was actually a pin for the arm. Just figured that was a simple descriptive way of describing it . Oddly in my OP the first picture was grabbed from this amazon link. https://www.amazon.com/Carter-M6905-Mechanical-Fuel-Pump/dp/B000CIQ5CC/ref=rtpb_1?pd_rd_w=FxQIK&pf_rd_p=be844577-fee7-4bbc-8dda-083e56cc6f0d&pf_rd_r=GZNX7T3EGP4NDQB7BCE1&pd_rd_r=5113cb72-cd28-4934-b1dc-d86117bb73a1&pd_rd_wg=G38SB&pd_rd_i=B000CIQ5CC&psc=1 That is a pump for a Ford FE, so I can purchase that pump and swap arms? In the mean time I can purchase a rebuild kit for my current pump so I have a spare. I'm sure I have old pumps packed away with my timing covers it's just they are all in storage at the moment. Thanks RJ

Can I hazard a guess that the six cylinder fuel pumps for AMC are much the same as the junk ones for the V-8s. I got a new Delphi pump for my six cylinder 1969 Javelin and seems to have lasted just long enough to drive to the gas station and back before it went south on me. The only six cylinder fuel pumps that seem to be available are what I call the late model twin towers fuel pumps , that have two round high tower looking units on the pump. Hencho in China of course . LRDaum
