Hey guys, sorry if this is in the wrong place. I'm thinking about selling the 401 in my CJ7 and curious what it might reasonably be worth.

-Stock forged rods and crank
-Wiesco forged flat top pistons (0.030 over)
-10.25:1 compression
-Fully balanced rotating assembly
-Ported edelbrock heads - upgraded with beehives and light weight retainers
-1.6 ration Scorpion Races series roller rockers
-Edelbrock Proflo 4 efi with victor jr intake portmatched to heads
-Ported oil pump with restricted pushrods (excellent oil pressure)
-New timing cover
-ARP main Studs, head bolts, Rod bolts
-Custom crane solid lifter cam with Comp EDM lifters (244/252, 110LSA, 0.569/0.572)

It's an awesome engine and has been a lot of fun. Probably only has about 10k miles on it. It ran Low 12's at 106mph a couple weeks ago with a 8500ft DA (Pueblo CO) in an all steel CJ7 trail jeep. Put down about 380hp and 400 ft-lbs on 35" tires with old cam and springs.

If I sell it I'll let my upgraded TH400 go with it.

Thanks for your input!

IMO Probably have a better chance of selling and getting a fair price if you invest in freshening up the engine with new bearings rings and seals. Racing motors typically are torn down every season and then you will be confident what your selling has no hidden issues

It's only worth what someone will pay for it. Put it in the Forum for sale section. I agree with XJ6, fresh rings and bearings will add more value, IF you can do this yourself!

Why would it need new rings and bearings? It's only got 10k miles on it. And he hit the track once. He said it's a trail jeep.

A "trail" Jeep that runs low 12s is a race motor. And 10k miles is equivalent to 40k 1/4 mile passes. I wouldnt buy that motor or sell it without knowing what it looked like inside

I will throw out a guess value this would be after an inspection removing the oil pan and valve covers checking bearings, looking at what can be seen of piston skirts and cylinder walls also no issues with valve train. With fresh rings, bearings and chain I agree with others higher value freshened up.

Good running used 401 with decent internal parts and good oil pressure. $3500
Used good condition Edelbrock EFi system is worth up to half of new cost. $1000
Minor mods plus good used transmission that a buyer needs. $500

Total $5K

Sounds like a great motor i'd like to have.   I'm in agreement with J grant that around 5K seems fair.  Parting it out would probably get you the most...

Well it is a 401, so it's not like that beast has to even work hard to move the jeep. Even my brothers CJ7 with a mild 327 would lift the front tire with 35s and 4.10s.  A CJ7 only weighs about 3300lbs. So any decent V8 in it will make it seem like a rocket ship. Besides maybe a pedestrian 304

I'd venture to say you could stick a bone stock 6.0 LS in a CJ and it'd do 0 to 60 in around 4 seconds

How is 10k street/trail miles equivalent to 40k 1/4 mile passes? Because of the hours idling?

Very impressive 1/4 numbers and trap speed for that altitude.
I will not suggest BS is spoken here but at 4600 feet the
real pressure ratio suffers and the air mass drops quite a bit.

A loss of about 15% at 4600 feet in altitude for an un supercharged
engine should be expected.

That said any good running 401 is worth 4 or 5 K

Not that I don't believe your story...

Just for giggles.....
Pueblo Motorsports Park is at 4913 feet altitude.

IMO keep it in the Jeep so you can demonstrate it.
