I installed the ARH headers on my 70 Javelin with Borg Warner m11b transmission. The header hit the transmission dipstick before seating. If the dipstick tubes bend ended an inch sooner it would fit, but still be close enough to absorb heat. Hoping to tuck it closer to transmission and keep distance from the header.
I purchased a Lokar dipstick tube for a ford C4 to start. I believe I just need a 90 degree fitting to go between the pan and dipstick tube. It appears I need a 1” inverted flare male to 3/4” inverted flare female. My questions… 1. Has anyone resolved this issue in another way? 2. Is the factory dipstick tube fitting actually 1” inverted flare? 3. Links to fittings that should work appreciated. I’ve gone to our Napa and a couple farm stores but nothing off the shelf, no help ordering. Any advice is appreciated, thou I prefer to not modify the factory dipstick tube. I tried to find a lokar tube for FMX but didn’t see any. Thanks

I cut and re-welded the factory tube. If you measure, the dipstick stays is the straight part of the tube, it doesn't enter the pan like the oil dipstick. I cut the tube at a 45 just past the fitting, giving myself room to weld without hitting the fitting. I then cut another 45 right at the bend forward. I welded the tube back together, made it very close to the pan. I did have to bend the upper tube a bit for firewall clearance, easily done with a conduit bender. Bob tufcj |

Find someone who can flare that size, shorten the tube and regard it

Guess I’ll consider modifying the factory dipstick.
Re-flaring would be nice but not sure where I could get that done. Chop and weld works for sure, guess that will need to be my path. It certainly makes it easier that the dipstick doesn’t actually enter the trans, just reads a level in the tube as mentioned. Thanks
