The difference between a 0.020" over and 0.030" over ring for a 401 bore would be 0.033".
You remove about the same amount off the top ring if you used hypereutectic pistons.
People are not checking and fitting rings for proper gap any more?
Grinding or filing rings is not a big deal on bigger bores this close. 4" and under bores they say 0.010". The smaller the bore, the more critical the sprung radius, not the other way around.
Or just buy 4.185" rings, pages of them:

Any time I order custom pistons I always get an extra right and left.
Best 1/4 mile 8.99, 1/8 mile 5.71, 60 foot 1.27, no power adders

4.185 pistons are available have ordered several sets
Good thing is you can get about any ring package 
They are .060 400 sbc rings

You can get 428 Ford rings in most any oversize. I use .040's (4.17" in stock bore

390's).
