I have a 1972 a998 that I am in the process of rebuilding. Everything has went smoothly except for acquiring the correct sealing rings for the front kickdown servo. I made the mistake of removing the original steel sealing rings off of it before fully verifying the new ones would fit and both of them broke upon removal. The original kit had the replacement rings meant for the 904 kickdown servo which is smaller then the 998/999. I have ordered what I thought would be correct (listed as correct) three times and the first two were too small, the last set I got in were the correct 2 3/8” od but are Teflon rings instead of steel rings. So I have 3 questions:
1. Is the 998 kd servo (non controlled load) the same size as the 727 front servo?
2. Does anyone know where I can get the correct steel rings from?
3. Should I just get over the fact they aren’t steel and use the Teflon rings? Will they work properly?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I’ve been waiting to finish reassembly of the trans for close to a month because of this issue.

I would buy an entire front kickdown servo if I had to at this point just to get it done and the car back up and running. Thanks

The teflon ones work fine. I've rebuilt a lot of transmissions using them with no problems.

It won’t cause any issues switching from the originally equipped steel rings to the Teflon rings?
