Making progress, new grade 8 bolts installed.
Here's an image with the rotor on.

Ambitious wheel and tire update. The new steel wheels have arrived from Speedway Motors, 15 X 8, 5 X 4.5 bolt pattern with 4.25" backspacing. The weight is listed as 24.5 lbs, but on my scale it looked closer to 20 lbs. I noticed the welding of the two pieces, barrel and inner, does not go all the way around the circle. I am thinking of having a friend complete the weld circle. Then off to the powder coater, black.
A friend sold me a new pair of Mickey Thompson ET Street S/S 275/60R15 tires. He bought them for his car and then decided to go in another direction, never mounted for $450. New ones through Summit would have cost me more than $600 with tax and shipping.
These tires are 28" tall and I might have to get some new leaf springs, 5 leaf.
It looks like these tires were made in 2023, so they are almost three years old, but I got a deal, so I am going to run them.

The rear brake line hose arrived at Napa today, Part Number 36778, cost $54.76 it would have been twenty dollars less, but it had to be UPS shipped from the manufacturer to my local NAPA store. Here's another image, showing the top of the junction, where the two hard lines attach.

I stopped using local parts stores a long time ago because of the crazy prices and lack of knowledge behind the counter.  Instead I use Rockauto for most projects but it requires me to plan my work ahead of time.

Yes Flejl, Rock Auto would have been a better choice, in hind sight. The Centric rear brake hose on Rock Auto lists for $20.99 before tax and shipping. I was trying to get it fast, the Hornet is on the lift at the shop. Little did I know that Michael, who was working on it, would get sick and be out for four days. I brought the Hornet into the shop on Friday the 13th of March, it's been almost a month, but I told them I am not in a rush. My goal is to get it to Cruising Grand in Escondido on Friday, April 3, 2026. I think this will be the first meet of the year.

Rock Auto have really raised their freight rates beyond what it actually costs them to ship the goods, so I've gotten to where I seldom buy from them now.  Amazon almost always beats them overall, and O'Reilly's can get parts in overnight that the local store doesn't stock, and there are no freight charges if I pick them up in store.  Of course, I like supporting our AMC vendors and they get plenty of my $$ too.

Yes, I guess it is best to compare prices, depending on what you are looking for. And it is important to consider shipping costs, as well as the price of the item. I stopped by Driveline Vista today and the rear end is together.
Third Snag, the 15" stamped steel wheels don't fit with the new brakes up front. The caliper makes contact with the wheel. I brought some 17" wheels off of my 1970 Javelin to the shop, so we can move the Hornet. I'll have to figure this one out later. On the APP website it shows that I should be able to use the stock 15" wheels.

My friend Nathan is a better welder than I am, so he laid down some beads to complete the circle connecting the barrel to the inner section on the new 15 X 8 steel wheels.

I hope that the heat did not compromise the strength of the wheel. I think it is OK, thoughts?
Update: I just dropped off the two wheels to the powder coater, in one week i pick them up and pay the $200 bill.
Well, it only took three days, here are the wheels, I just picked them up.
There is some scratching on the inside, but with the tire on, it won't be visible. Maybe it's from the hanger that held the wheels during painting.

Discount Tire mounted the directional Mickey Thompson ET Street SS tires on the powder coated rims.
These top two images are the two sides of the Right rear tire. It took a lot of weights to balance, the welding might have thrown it off.
Above is the left rear tire that used much less weight to balance.
These new tires are 28" tall, much taller than the stock 24" tires I was running. I hope they fit.

Here is how the two wheels and tires add up.
Stock 15" X 8" Wheel Smith wheels from Speedway Motors              $400
Used but never mounted Mickey Thompson tires                               $450
Electro Tech Powder Coating                                                              $200
Discount Tire Mounting and Balancing with new rubber valve stems  $ 50
Total                                                                                                  $1,100

I wish I could have saved another $100 on the price of the tires , that would make a total of an even $1,000, but now I realize, a pair of wheels and tires for drag racing is pretty pricey these days.

I haven't drag raced in a while, but I remember in my area, they wanted steel bolt-in valve stems.
