Ran across this thermostat for AC systems.  Applications listed are various Jeep models from 71-86 Ambassador (74-68), Concord (79), Gremlin (77-70), Hornet (76-70), Matador (78-71), Rebel (70-68), Spirit (79), and a multitude of Ford/Mercury applications.  It specifically says it doesn't fit early AMX/Jav).  Anyone tried to retrofit one of these on early AMX/Jav?

  • Just thinking out loud, Mine currently works and I have a spare, but it seems like it might be a solution for a tough part with some tweaking?  I am probably set for life but I thought this might help someone.

  • No idea how this one works, so enter at your own risk.  I have only looked at the wiring diagram and measured my spare switch, but it appears that to convert the AMX/Jav to 2-wire control would only affect the "low-speed is always on with AC" through the AC Thermostat.  Converting to 2-wire control (pull the blue wire off pin 3 and connect it and the brown to pin 1) would turn off the low-speed-fan when the thermostat cuts off the compressor.  Seems like as long as the AC Control Switch is set to M or H, the system would work normally.
