Anyone know the correct size for the standard 72 Javelin dash speaker, and know of a good replacement? I'm installing a new Retrosound radio to replace the factory AM, the rear shelf speakers are good ones but the front is shot.

I am pretty much in the same boat. I found a 5.25 round speaker fits the dash and lines up with the holes. Crutchfield has a dual voice coil that they list for a ford bronco. There is a review from someone with a 74 javelin who says it fits. It lists it at 2-30 watt rms. If you have an upgraded radio and want stereo sound from the dash speaker.

Are you asking about the front dash or rear dash (which I believe might also be called the rear deck)?

Front dash. The rear deck ones are relatively new and fine.

That's helpful, thanks! Of course Crutchfield says it won't fit, but the bracket seems easy to drill new holes into if it doesn't line up exactly (as long as the speaker isn't too deep)

Must have looked at that review without my glasses. Just looked at it again and it says the guy had a 1972 javelin. Anyways, I ordered it and will let you know if it fits the bracket. My car is still stripped to the firewall waiting on a heater core to put everything back together.

Do you have the bracket the the speaker mounts to? I believe it would be a 4x10 speaker, and they do make dual speakers that fit into 4x10 mounts. Or take 2 ea. 4" round speakers and modify bracket to mount them.

I assume the Retrosound radio OP is using has 4 speaker outputs (2 front, 2 rear). Be careful to match speaker power to amplifier power. Most amplifier spec's are per channel. The spec's for those speakers don't say if the max power is per unit, or per coil. Since both the speakers and radio are Retrosound, a quick call to verify compatibility is in order. Generally speaking, you want each speaker to be able to handle a bit more power than the amplifier can supply per channel. Use the RMS numbers to determine. As to whether a 72 Javelin would use the round or oval speaker, I have no idea. I installed a 4x10" in my 69 Javelin. It was dual speaker rather than dual coil.

Ok so installed the Reterosound D52-UK 5 1/2" speaker today. It's a tight fit with the Reterosound Hermosa stereo, it does fit and all the holes line up! I'm thinking if you'll have trouble if you have larger stereo though.
