Not sure where this post should go, so let me know if I need to move it, haha.

My '72 SST had AC in it and I'd like to put it back, but I don't know how to make this happen. The car has the dash controls and the AC evaporator in it's duct box. I have a gasket rebuild kit for the heater and AC evaporator box, but I know there is much more I need to do.

First, I don't have a compressor, but I have all of the brackets and other parts (AMC kit) even though they were missing from the car when I purchased it. Knowing it will need to run on the newer gas, can the older evaporator work? Do I need to have it re-cored? Like the heater core? Anyone know who does that? Or do I need a different one?

Sorry for all the questions, I am out of my knowledge base.

Thanks guys!

David

Your evaporator should work fine.
Consider a modern, smoother Sanden style compressor (you'll need different mounts), unless you are trying to keep things stock looking.

The evaporator will work but flush it and any old parts you use with AC flush or brake cleaner. Any old oil has to go. Get the dryer rebuilt or use a new generic dryer. The old condenser will work but a new style parallel flow condenser will work better. And replace the expansion valve with a valve compatible with new refrigerant. If you get all the pieces together, either take it to someone for vacuuming and charging or come back and ask.
