Well, looks like the Javelin is going to be off the road for a little while longer.

Fuel tank looks to be leaking on the bottom near the passenger side tank strap.  Not a major leak, but I'm getting a slow drip.

The tank has been repaired a couple of times over the years, it's original to the car.

I called the radiator/gas tank shop that does the repairs and it appears that to clean, test, repair the tank is minimally $325 these days.

I could try and get a used tank, but I could also end up right back in the same situation.....

Not sure if the price is accurate, but looks like Kennedy has a new replacement tank, less the filler tube for around $349.  Which would mean I'd have to get the repair shop to transfer the filler tube.

Performance has a tank, sender, strap and bolt kit (68-70 Javelin/AMX) kit, but the filler tube looks to include the vent tube on the filler.  And it's also $799......

Has anyone used the new replacement tanks and if so, any thoughts on fit/quality?

Thanks.

I used the Eastwood tank repair kit and it worked great. It's been over a year and no signs of leakage.

Thanks for that info.

I know that the tank was coated at one time, but I've never tried the Eastwood product.

One of the issues with the tank is that after 2-3 repairs and pressure testing, it's been "inflated" a
bit.

But if I can save the tank, that would be good.

update:  Hmm.  checked the Eastwood site.  Tank sealer is out of stock until 10/13....

I bought a tank from Jeff Kennedy for my 70 Jav and it was a perfect fit. Easy to unsolder the fill pipe and solder back in to the new tank. Jeff is a great guy to work with.

I used one of the reproduction gas tanks on my 70 Javelin too. Like bob said, just unsolder the filler neck and solder it onto the new tank and it is good to go!!

Try KBS Coatings.   https://www.kbs-coatings.com/kbs-tank-sealer-system.html   Used it on my 1967 American 440 and it worked great!  ~$75.00

I'd go with a new tank. One that has been repaired twice already sounds like it's not a good candidate for another repair.

I bought a tank/sender/strap kit from Ebay for around $550.  My test fit went well, but I don't have it permanently mounted.  This tank has the filler neck in place already.

Edit:  I just looked and the kit is now $711.

1970 AMX, one step forward, one step back. Both steps cost time and money.
