It's actually done. Plan is to go pick it up September 8th. Owner even said if I bring my wheels and wheel arch trim, they'll put on the trim and wheels gratis. It's quite funny as the owner has even professed that the car has definitely grown on him and it's garnered a LOT of attention when folks have come in the shop.

Looking great..!!!
Just wait till you get it done and drive it. You will get an awful lot of attention. I know I do with mine when I take it out and about. I got more interest then the 69 Roadrunner 426 Hemi 4 speed car in vitamin C paint that I was parked to this past weekend. Even the owner of the car stated that...!!

Looks better every time you post a pic. The new wheels will dress it up. Must be tough to resist modifications, I don’t think I could put whitewalls on it! The stripe really dresses up the car also.

I firmly believe this car will wind up in a museum some day. The few mods I have done can be easily reversed like the later-style Electric Wipers, the 2-barrel carb, the FM converter and the 8-track stereo. About the only other mod I really want to complete is the addition of the Laycock-deNormanville Overdrive.... I've just got to have a custom bellhousing made to make the swap possible. But even that could be reversed if a fellow were so inclined. |

AMCs big bad colors played upon Beatles Sargent Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band colors, of the uniforms worn by the band members...
That BBG looks great on small Gremlin! Define vintage/define iconic. Good job man/more power to you...

Yeah man, I am having a hard time imagining this car in 1970. I can totally understand why the Original Owners' parents were just beside themselves. The color is outrageous today!! I couldn't imagine seeing this pop culture icon rolling around in the summer of 1970. People would've flipped out! |

Well, today was a colostomy of errors if there ever was one.
It all started when my buddy providing the truck and trailer for bringing the Gremlin home, struck a piece of firewood on the highway, bending his RF wheel. Of course, this happened on a mountain pass, so no cell service. So, he managed to hitch a ride to my place, we grab some tools and head back to swap on the spare. Well, the spare only has 22psi of air and is a bit shakey. So, we sat around until 9am when everything finally opened. We have a local junkyard, they had the exact 20" wheel we needed.... they said they'd pull it off in no time, so we made an appointment for a new tire and it looked like crisis averted. 10:00am. 11:00am. How long does it take to find a wheel? So we phone the junkyard again, remind them about the wheel.... "Oh yeah, won't be until after noon now...." Great. So the whole day is shot. It's about 4-hours ONE WAY to where the Gremlin is. 12:45pm, we finally got the wheel. I'd phoned the owner of Pacific Muscle Cars by this point.... he was all rearing to go.... they had the Grem ready for it's new wheels and wheel arch trim.... He was understanding when I explained the situation but he was none too pleased. On the plus side, buddy left his trailer here. So, if I can beg/borrow/steal a truck in the next day or maybe rope one of my friends with their big diesels into going on a road trip.... with any luck, might bring the car home before the weekend. I'm still a few weeks away from having the General Delivery running and even then.... half-ton 6-cylinder would be an awfully slow trip. The real irony being my new Go Pro showed up in the mail today.... which is REALLY odd because usually mail doesn't get delivered until after 3pm. It was in the mail box by 8:20am! If only I'd had filmed the days events..... you can't make this stuff up!! This would be genuine drama for my premiere episode on Youtube. |

And the day just gets weirder! A friend took a bit of pity on me and loaned me his.... dig this.... 1000+ lb-ft 1-ton diesel Dodge and his 20-foot equipment trailer!!
It's sitting in my driveway, ready to rock tomorrow morning. Total overkill to go retrieve the Gremlin, but my buddy says it'll be perfect for a beginner like me. Won't even feel like we're hauling anything. |
