Hey guys,

I need a pair of stock ‘68 or ‘69 V8 heads, casting #3188558 for my 343 V8 engine rebuild.

My engine is put together and on an engine run test stand with the engine builder, but both of the heads are cracked and are leaking coolant, so I need some help. If you have a pair please PM me with information and price. I’d also consider single heads from different individuals if that’s an option.

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,

Glynn Jenkinson

Saw these on Craigslist near me recently...

Looks like there's several sets on eBay...

My advice - do not buy any that have not been tested for cracks - I have a pair of clean and tested cores that need rebuilding.  Good luck.

Agreed. Unfortunately, the set that are on the engine now were cleaned and magnafluxed and they cracked.

Are the earlier heads more prone to cracking than the later heads?

I think I've read that they are... Me personally... I'd use dog leg heads... I realize they aren't OEM for your application but they will add a good chunk of power over the square port heads.

70 heads are just as bad as prior.  Not sure when they incorporated a small radii at the lower edges.  The factory had a machine that tightened all of the head bolts simultaneously so they didn't realize this was an issue until years later.
