I thought I would share the project that I'm working on.
I am putting this car together for my Father as a weekend trip car with the possibility of a lil' auto cross thrown in the mix.
The car is a 68 AMX 390, 4 speed.
It appears to be a very early production car, perhaps one from the first run of 50.
The vin ends in 0043.The vin tag is in engine compartment on rt side spring tower. AMX dash plaque is located on the glove box as well. At some point someone robbed the AMX plaque from the dash that was below the rally pac gauges. Angry
Overall it is a really solid start for what we want to build. All stock parts that are removed will be stored in a crate... just in case.
Current plans for the car are:
Edelbrock Pro Flow 4 fuel injection
TKX 5 speed
Control Freak Front clip
17x8 wheels
Wilwood brakes
Procar seats
Dapper headlights
Sequential LED taillights

Here are a few pictures of the car.

That is a great looking AMX! Post the info from the drivers door tag and the production date can be narrowed down. Thumbs UpThumbs Up

What are you leaning towards in 17" wheels?
That'll be one of my down the road expenditures.

My dad really likes the current vintage Cragar SS wheels that are on the car.
We may just upsize to the 17x8 Cragar SS 61 wheels with 245x45ZRx17 tires.

Nice car!  I have an early build white/red interior AMX.  I don't think the early cars had two dash emblems.  it started out on the glovebox and then moved to the center dash.  Quite certain on non rally packs.  Rally pack may be different.  I am sure the experts can chime in.

Dash plaque facts only. No urban legends or other misinformation.

Next up..... Serpentine accessory drive system.
With this setup we get some automatic upgrades
Alternator to a 140 amp
Power steering pump is upgraded to a GM type 2 with remote reservoir
Sanden 7B10 AC compressor for the eventual AC install

I felt that the satin black anodized system was the cleanest looking...... But the old man wants shiny so we went with clear ceramic coated polished aluminum for long lasting shine.

X2 on the Cragar SS.  Its what's been on mine forever and just can't see it any other way.

That serpentine system is the CVF unit.  I went with the March.
What, if any, modifications have you made or are planning to make to the cooling system (fan) to clear the pulleys?
