Well, I thought it would be a good idea to get my 1 piece rubber bushings installed in the refinished brackets today. It quickly turned into a no go situation. The bushings measure 1.560 and the bracket hole is 1.410.
I can't imagine any way these will ever press in being .150 oversize. Does anyone have any words of wisdom? Are there any rubber 2 piece rubber bushings out there for a 68?

I used a moog 2 piece set meant for a 1985 Eagle for my 68 Javelin. Hard to come by nowadays. The box mine came in was from a midas location and had a midas part number sticker as well as the moog part number.

Midas # SB1000
Moog # K3090

(I just looked at the spare set I also picked up at that time)
Also used the nuts from an Eagle as well as they take up less space on the threads.

Midas is almost everywhere. We have like 6 of them here in Winnipeg.

If the bushings otherwise fit and you have a drill press and a grinder. You can mount the bushing in the drill press, spin it and grind the rubber to size.
Rubber does not "machine" well, but it can be ground down. Very messy, but very doable.
Wear a mask - they are easier to find now!

Good tip on the Eagle nuts, lol.  Tried to get as much caster as I could and the outer jam nut is not fully seated now.

After looking things over with fresh morning eyes, instead of tired evening eyes, I have to admit I over reacted. Embarrassed  With a light smear of Napa Sil Glyde, the bushings pressed in with minimal effort. Now have to cross my fingers that they don't split. I have heard that may be an issue.

I wasted tonnes of $ and time trying to stay original and use the 1 piece kind. They lasted a few weeks each time. The 2 piece ones been in there since the summer of 2016, still look new. Both sides come in the box, only one side pictured.

Pretty sure there's a reason why the two-piece bushings have superceeded the one-piece.  If the rubber is that soft it can be pushed through the hole in the strut rod bracket, it's not going to be long for the world.

Old rubber is bad rubber. NOS rubber, it should be criminal to sell it as usable. It's not. Recent manufacture one-piece would be fine, but chances are the ones you are buying are 40 years old unless you have specific knowledge about them.

Rubber goes bad just sitting. Good storage helps, but it all eventually rots.

I've had the 2 piece rubbers installed for over ten years with no problems. Previously had one piece type which was old stock and only lasted six months. For comfort I prefer rubber, rather than urethane which gives a very firm ride. Getting old I guess...
