Here I am again....!!! Bought a disc brake set up with the whole front end off of a 68 AMX. My wheels 14 inch will not fit!!! Calipers hit/scrape on the wheel. He had large wheels on his.???? They are attached to the original trunion frontend. How is it possible?

Is it a factory disc setup that you installed? The factory cars with discs had an 1/8" spacer between the rotor and wheel, so that the calipers don't hit the inside of the wheel. Maybe this spacer is missing on your setup?
This would be the case if the caliper is hitting the back of the wheel face. If the caliper is hitting the round part of the wheel, that is more difficult to solve. Mike

1970 AMX, one step forward, one step back. Both steps cost time and money.

I did not get the spacer from the person I bought them from. Can I still find them or even a 1/4 would do.

The original studs are pretty short, that is the only reason that I would be worried about running a 1/4" spacer. I would put an ad in the 'wanted' section, chances are someone has a set that they would sell.

Factory wheels?
IIRC, the disc / wheel spacers were not .12 thick, maybe .06-.09. But they were required for the Magnum 500 wheels |

Back in the early '70s, I sold a couple of sets of Cragar wheels for AMCs. The Cragar catalog specified to use their "disc brake spacer" on cars with disc brakes. So using a spacer on cars with disc brakes was common back in the day, say, prior to about '75 when discs became NEARLY universal on V8 cars.

If you bought the new casting calipers (4 piston Bendix style), with the original Magnum 500 wheels, they MAY scrape a bit, as some have reported they needed to do a little grinding on the caliper for clearance. (The originals had just the bare minimum clearance back in the day.)

Find a couple of scrap top hat rotors and grind the tops off for 1/8" spacers. Toyota, Honda, Ford, Chrysler ... 4.5x5/114.3x5 are all the same. Just find ones that the center hole clears. If you cut the top off from the side, and clean down to flat, there will be no balance issues.

I just checked some OE spacers that I have, and they are .084 thick.
As others said above "they were needed for the OE Magnum 500 wheels to fit properly on 4 piston OE Bendix disc brakes" Dennis
