Poor start or stop, obvious area of porosity or no adhesion, not even fillet.
IMO, take it back and have them repair the weld. If they say it's fine, tell them your going to take it to the motor vehicle inspection service in your area for their opinion. I doubt that would pass safety inspection. They will likely repair it, and have to rebalance/check tolerance again. They should video or let you see it being spun to see it's straight within specification when they rebalance.

If it's the original shaft that has survived this long without blowing up, it will probably go on working just fine.
The joint is what you need to worry about on these cars. It's called a double cardan joint, with two u-joint crosses inside joined by a centering ball device. The u-joints themselves can be replaced, but the centering ball cannot. Once the centering ball wears out, you are KIA and the entire shaft and joint assembly must be replaced. You need to dissasemble the joint, inspect all the parts for wear, and at least clean and grease everything while its apart because you cannot grease it once the driveline is assembled.

I think it’s the original drive shaft. I wasn’t sure cause in the book, it looked like I should be able to slip that part off to disassemble the yoke to replace the joints.

You might have been looking at a six cylinder shaft. It uses a removable yoke (from the shaft) with a single u-joint. The V-8 uses a two piece driveshaft with a tubular front section and solid rear, six has a solid shaft.
