I have removed all the bolts holding the steering gear to the body. Removed the bolts holding the column to the dash, unhooked the shift linkage, removed the screws holding the rubber seal and support plate at the floor / fire wall.

I'm assuming the steering wheel has to come off first? That's the one tool I do not have, and am stuck.

Does everything come apart easily after the steering wheel comes off?

THe steerign wheel puller is an odd concentric bolt thing, and yes, you need one. You definitely have to remove the steering wheel. The steerign shaft is planted in the box so the car has to be high enough to extract it (nothing unusual, just jackstands).

I long ago bought the tool, no regrets. I've used it lots, and just a week ago.

Not sure where I got mine, Galvin's?

The important part of the tool grips that inside of the steering wheel, and a center bolt presses down onto the steerign shaft (with the nut off of course).

Yes, it's otherwise very easy.

If you want to borrow mine, email me your address:

You don't want to risk damaging a 60 year old wheel, if you intend to reuse it.

That is incredibly generous of you. I found one online for $59, plus freight. Not sure how many times I would use it though. You may get an email from me.

Thank you!
