I just bought a 68 javelin SST with a 343 engine. It had headers and traction bars and a few other little things. With a 354 rear gear what kind of quarter mile times could a person expect?

i'm sure the experts will chime in on this one.
you could use an online calculator like this one
to get an approximation:  https://robrobinette.com/et.htm
1969 Rebel SST (1970-1987)
1968 AMX (2005-2011)
1969 SC/Rambler (2011-2019)
1970 Javelin (2019 to ?)"Jane"

The assumption with 3:54 gears is that you have a 4-spd manual transmission; however, that would be an assumption.

Stock, you would be looking at low-mid 15 seconds, according to every magazine article from back when it was new. Headers and traction bars might get you into the high 14's. The stock shifter from 68 didn't help things. Anything below that would depend upon the meaning of "a few other little things."

I'd guess maybe mid 14's and somewhere in the mid 90's mph. 354 gears will certainly help and you can't go wrong with headers and traction bars.
I've finally given up drinking for good...........now I only drink for evil.

Had a ’69 BBO AMX. Originally a 390 AMX but had a 343 in it with a Torker on it (was on it when I bought it), stock Carter carb, log exhaust manifolds, 4-speed and 3.54:1 rear gears. Took it to the track where traction on the BF Goodrich Radial T/A's was poor. Ran 15.20. About what I expected. But what really surprised me was the 96 MPH. Later took off the Torker and installed a cast iron manifold. On the street, I couldn’t tell any difference. Did not go back to the track.

As Sonic said it depends on "a few other little things."
The stock looking 343 in my Javelin when I got it had a steel crank, solid lifters, headers, huge carb. and a full race cam. "A few other little things" covers a lot of territory!
Try running it and find out!

Set your expectations for mid 15's.  anything better will be a bonus.
1970 AMX, one step forward, one step back. Both steps cost time and money.

Also hope you have better luck with your 343, mine had been built, raced, and was worn out!
Replaced with a 360/727

if a 3/4 race cam had 270 degrees duration, does a full race cam have 360 duration? Wink
