290 is from a running, driving car. Cleaned it up, new gaskets, seals and timing set. I made sure to check the oiling slot on the cam gear, it did need a bit of work to get it lined up nicely. Did not braze the extra slots in the face of the gear, so I should have plenty of oil showing up there. I have nothing. Spun the pump with a drill and a gutted distributor, got good resistance on the drill right away. After about a minute I pulled the priming distributor and looked in the hole and have no oil showing up in there.  How long does it need to spin to see oil at the cam gear? What am I missing here??? Confused Confused

Did you put some vasoline in the pump? If you have resistance there should be oil flowing somewhere in the system. I would keep pumping it's not going to hurt anything, if the fuel pump is not mounted yet you can look into the timing chain area and see if oil is flowing, since it was running before there shouldn't be any issues.

No, on the vasoline. Drill initially spun freely, and then started to bear down when it caught prime.

Just spun it again for 1 minute, nonstop. Nothing. Nada. I expected to look in the distributor hole and see oil dripping from the cam gear. Nope.

Filter was pre filled before spinning it on.
