Eagle has had new control module & wiring, carb rebuild, tightening of bolts & screws in around carb, automatic choke now working. Vehicle starts stalling or dying after engine is warmed up; perhaps after 5 miles of driving. This might occur while braking harder, say if someone pulls in front of u quickly. It will restart immediately the 1st 3 or so times & then doesn't wanna cooperate until it sits a few minutes.

A failing ignition coil that shorts internally once it heats up would fit your description. Small cool down ok for a bit till heats up again. Does nit fit the hard braking aspect unless that jiggles things enough without extra heat to cause the intermittent failure,
AN idea to explore

Hard breaking might be pulling the vacuum down if you have a leak but that wouldn't explain the ongoing rough idle for a few minutes after restarting.
Unplug the coolant switch to the computer and drive normally. This forces the computer to stay in open loop as if the engine was still cold. (which is the only time your engine seems to be working okay) Who made your new ignition module? Edited by MIPS - Sep/29/2022 at 6:35pm |

The Eagle doesn't rough idle after restarting but rather doesn't wanna keep the car moving. That is, by the time I move the shifter from neutral to drive, it dies. When I restart, it will run if I just wanted to leave it in park & sit. This may happen several times over a 5 mile run on 4 lane streets with lights. I'm afraid I'll mess up the gears by shifting so quickly while keeping my foot lightly on the gas as I shift. This can get me going. I brake easily as possible if I c a light turning red, I slow was down in advance & creep up to it. It's like learning how to manuever the car with this deficiency. Of course u lose your power steering & brakes when it dies so u automatically prepare to hold on to the steering wheel.
I think the module may have been purchased from Napa & the mechanic/repair shop wired it. They did the same for my 79 Spirit AMX about 2 years ago.

Polling? Lol.
Diagnosis. Sensors and hoses. There's no substitute for going through carb and emissions systems step by step. It will probably require figuring out how the stuff works and going from there. It's reasonable to look at things like bad connections, cracked or loose hoses, etc but after and hour or two of that, you have decide, do you want it keep guessing until you shotgun it without knowing what, or spend the time learning it, fixing it and understanding for the next time. hi, check the coil horseshoe connector. the wires may be so frayed they work intermittently. Happened to me, the car would run, then buck, try to die, then die. Upon inspection, one of the wires at the connector was only attached by ONE STRAND of wire. A new connector solved the problem. good luck, gz

Yeah check your ignition wiring up to the coil. I ran into a similar symptom a few months back and it was a bad connection between the module and the coil once the fault warmed up.

Could be Egr related. Egr is not supposed to be active at idle.it is also usually turned off when engine is cold.
