Remflex has helped me tremendously with a header collector that wouldn't square up to the pipe. You can double them up, and they are designed to seal as they compress. I have been very satisfied, and if you're pretty close right now, they might just do the trick without all that effort.

The only thing I'd say is don't bend their gaskets as you put them on. Otherwise, I haven't found better.

Thank you very much Phil!

As it turns out... I had a carb tuning specialist re-tune my car today and while I haven't driven it yet... he said found the ticking noise! It was the EGR block off plate leaking!!!! To the naked eye it looked fine but once he took it off it was obvious that it wasn't sealing.

So I'm really looking forward to driving it tomorrow night. Also... I did use the Remflex gaskets... Which is why I was so surprised that it was ticking so loudly. Keep your fingers crossed!

He also changed spark plugs, swapped metering rods, springs, adjusted the choke, changed the secondary jets and recurved the distributor. He has a certain specialty... He specializes in 80-81 Pontiac Trans Am's with the 4.9 Hot Side Turbo engines. It took me a long time to find him and I'm glad he really put the effort into my car. I previously took it to a local "tuning shop" and they didn't do ANY of what I asked them to do! All these did was time the car and put it on the dyno. While it made decent power... It never ran well. I took it back and they kept telling me the carb didn't need any changes... Well... Obviously... That wasn't true.

That's great to hear. Always nice to find the simple answer once in a while.

I was never that good at carb tuning, and guys like that are rare. Plenty of people that think a fancy setup is necessary, when the basics are still most of the battle.

Best of luck with the rest of the project.

GREAT thread!
I love the build, & love all the pics. Clap

More-door Hornets and Concords are under rated and under represented in the hobby,

 I'd love to build a stock appearing 4-door 1970 390 4spd Hornet,
but I know that will never happen LOL

Good luck with the rest of the build!

71 P-code 4spd Javelin/AMX

Thanks a lot. It been a long time coming. I've owned this car since 1992. Swapping in the v8 was something I've always wanted to do but I wasn't sure I could pull it off until about 2017 when I finally had collected enough parts to make it happen. Locating the right people to do the work right was the hardest part. I already had 95% of the parts in storage built up over a period of about 5-7 years if getting specials on eBay and Rock Auto closeout specials. I also financed it heavily using credit cards with sign up bonuses and cash back incentives. You can do it if you get creative with how you pay for things. Buying parts slowly over time was easy once I had a list of parts assembled on Rock Auto's website. Never give up my friend. Never give up. I spent my life being made fun of for thinking so much about an old Concord but I wouldn't be deterred. You shouldn't either.

I'm looking forward to driving it later today. I hope to report back soon.

I like it a lot, Concords are great-looking cars, love the colour. Nice job on the V8 transplant, I like the stock look.

Well done!

Thank you very much. I was definitely trying to keep it looking stock but give it a sporty and classy touring look. The black accents and the 80's style chrome are my favorite part. Plus the black wheels and the black top really just pulls it altogether. Originally the top was maroon and I wanted to switch it to black to contrast the maroon and chrome.

Well the Concord runs a lot better. I hope to drive it more this weekend but he really did a good job. I hope I can get one or two more good weekends to drive it.

Yes indeed. He certainly knows his stuff. He's also a pro at installing FITECH and Holley Sniper FI systems as well. 👍

Well I'm happy to report that the Concord runs vastly vastly better. There's a day and night difference in driving characteristics and a marked improvement with acceleration. That being said... The Concord's 6 cylinder stock OEM axle is a lowly 2.21 gear ratio and although it's fantastic at 65mph...  it's not doing anything for take off around town! So I am really looking forward to installing the 2.73 non-posi axle I got last summer. While it still won't be setting any land speed records, the 2.73 should help it get out of it's own way around town a little better. It was recently refurbished by a guy with a 72 Hornet but he later swapped to an AMC 20 posi axle instead.

Also got a few other things hiding in the shadows! ✊🤘👍

😳🙄🤦😆😂
