Hello, I need an authority on the hood stripes used on the 71-74 amx with go-pack. I have a 71 model and it is at the body shop ready for the stripes. Bodyman likes painted stripes, so do I. We were planning on reproducing the 1971 pre-production style and have the fender sections wrap down vertically toward the marker lights. I was talking to one person and he asked how I was goint reproduce the "fadeaway" feature unique to the 1971 models !!??. Well, I said ,I never gave it much thought as I was going to differ from factory correct anyway with the fender section change and honestly couldn't even recall the difference in the 71 style as much of my knowledge lies in the 68-70 cars. I couldn't recall the difference from all the past shows and I understand there wasn't a reproduction of the fadeaway style until recently??!! Anyway, the previous owner of car sanded off all remaining evidence of the original stripes and I need some factory placement/dimension measurements to at least guide us through the main t-stripe and pinstripe(if there is supposed to be one on the pre-production and/or 72-74 style) layout for painting.I can't seem to find a quality close-up pic of the 71 style to even compare.I need help ASAP as the bodyshop guy is getting anxious. Thanks, Steve

My '71 SST (early build) has the "preproduction" AMX-style stripes, and I haven't sanded them off yet. I do have a few photos with measurements on hand, and can take more if you need.

If it isn't too late, that is...

PM me with an address if you want a direct email of them. I don't want to post 'em here, they're way too big.

Sorry to bump such an old thread,

but does anyone have the "pre-production" style 71 stripe on their Javelin or AMC?
(the T stripe where the t-tips go down towards the front bumper instead of backwards towards the cowl).

Did they really put these on any of the cars, besides some of the brochure cars?

Mostly just a curiosity,
but I do like the idea of using this stripe on a 71.

Story I've always heard, was that the early '71 style vinyl stripe wouldn't lay down correctly going over the fender, hence the redesign.

I don't know about that but burnished brown has one on his mustard yellow 71 and it looks really good.

It's too bad, I really like the original style better.

I thought "someone" had made reproduction stripes in the early 71 style at one point, but I looked around and didn't find anything.

As far as Burnished Brown's 71 in Mustard,

I'll look around to see if I can find a pic.

Mustard is one of my favorite AMC colors,
so I'm sure I'll agree. Thumbs Up

You might check these guys out.  Although vinyl, they may have the proper dimensions if you're looking to paint.

I also think Nick Alfono makes them.

Thanks Lakeside!

This is the page I was looking at when I starting thinking about how much I like the wrap around version.
