I am a big fan of a local family that produces a wide range of amazing products, especially for drag racing. Meziere Enterprises. Here's the father, Harold (86) in his blown flat head hot rod. He has been a drag racing pioneer and passed on the talent and passion to the next two generations of his family business. https://www.meziere.com/ Harold's son, Don Meziere won the Top Sportsman class at the 2020 NHRA Winternationals, I was there that day. Harold's grandson, Zach Meziere is a winner too. It's not often that we AMC'ers get much love from the aftermarket parts industry. Meziere makes an electric water pump in two versions, the first mounts to the front of the timing cover and the second pump mounts remotely. I will be installing one of each on different engines. The first up is the pump on the front of the timing cover of a 401 with Edelbrock aluminum heads in a 1970 Javelin "Orange Juice", the subject of this thread. I will be working through some of the issues with this setup and a big one is how do we address the bypass hose that we all know runs from the thermostat housing on the intake manifold to the top of a stock mechanical water pump. Since the Meziere system is a two piece solution, with the first being the WP127 block off plate ($193.36) mounting to the front of the engine/timing cover in place of the old mechanical water pump. Then the second part, the WP111 pump ($407.76) mounts to this block off plate. There are different colors available. There is no provision for a bypass hose to the thermostat housing. Over the years I have seen a couple of different work arounds, the one I have had my eye on, I call the Jim Lamberson solution. A 1 1/2" diameter aluminum tube has another smaller 3/4" aluminum tube welded to it at an angle allowing for a total of three hoses to be attached to it. The top radiator hose is cut in half and attached to each end of the 1 1/2" tube with the provision for the smaller 1/2" bypass hose attaching to the junction and connecting to the thermostat housing. I have decided to start making my own. Recently I purchased two sticks of aluminum tubing 1 1/2" and 3/4" diameters, from Escondido Metal Supply here in North San Diego County. Alex, the Engineer at Channel 16, where I work, is also a friend and did some Tig welding for me, here is the prototype so far. The 1 1/2" tube is 4" in length. If you are interested in having one for your car, send an e-mail to Webmaster@AMX390.com Tom Dulaney

Check out how the timing cover is coming along for the 401 in the Javelin.

Thanks Steve, it was good to see you and your new AMO Colorado Show shirt, we should have taken a picture together. As far as the changes to Cruzin Grand, well it's not a cruise anymore, but I can see the advantages of closing several blocks for people to cross the street and it's cool to have parking on the center median. Say "Hi" to Jane for me, I look forward to meeting her. Maybe I can find her in the Colorado video. Edited by AMX390 - Jul/25/2021 at 11:57am |

Don Meziere suggested an alternative to the custom aluminum bypass tubes I was making. They drilled and tapped the top of the pump to add a fitting for the bypass hose. Now. If you are thinking of ordering a Meziere electric water pump, consider asking for this modification. If you already have a Meziere pump on your AMC and don't want to modify it or if you are running the pump remotely, I have the custom aluminum bypass tubes available. Webmaster@AMX390.com Tom Dulaney They also changed the electrical connector to the newer type. I've had this pump for a while, you can see the date stamp, May, 2002.

After Meziere's shop,
it was a short drive to Cruzin Grand. There were six great AMC people
there tonight and three cool AMC cars. This 1969 AMC/390/Auto was super clean. Both of the small body cars had 401/Auto/9" rear ends. They sounded pissed off! 1972 Gremlin and 1973 Hornet.

Another great evening in Escondido at Cruzin Grand. I saw four AMX's and five Javelins, super cool! There was a model car contest, it's better than no AMC's. There was the one beautiful bittersweet orange AMX, I posted images previously.
