Bill and Bob, Thanks for the fantastic info, that's just what I was hoping to find here. This AMC Forum is the single greatest resource in the hobby thanks to guys like you, giving quick detailed info. Much appreciated! I already put the cover back on with a Fel-Pro cork gasket, so for now I will leave it buttoned up. When I pull the cover off again, I will count the teeth. I am glad it has a Dana "Power Lock" Posi and knowing it was manufactured February 19th, 1970 is a real bonus. Maybe at some point in the future I will go the cheeper chicken route and try having Pro Gear, the local shop, change the gears to the 3.54 I have and add a second keyway to strengthen the axles. I can then prolong the $$$ of the Moser solid axles and Auburn posi unit. Now that it is full of 80/90 gear oil, I am happy to run it for a while and enjoy these freeway gears. Happy Mother's Day! Tom

Adding a key is a waste of time. The only purpose of the original key is to put the hub back in the same position as it was originally installed.

OK, thanks Heavy! It's something I heard in the AMC community in the 1980's, when we used to street race here in San Diego.

Tom,
Doctor Diff is more economical and less of a headache than Moser. I am very happy with the axles they provided. Others here use them as well. Bryan

The new four row Champion radiator arrived and the Spal electric fan shroud I have had for years and never used fits well. I may have to adjust the bolt holes a little, but no biggie. The Champion looks
like a nice quality part, I have heard only good things and for the
price, yes. I was looking at the Frostbite by Holley, which is more than
$100 more, they are both made in China, so why spend the extra money? The K&N HP-3001 oil filters arrived from Summit Racing. Edited by AMX390 - Jun/04/2021 at 11:10pm |

Got a lot done today, took the rear end of the Javelin off the jack stands and put the front up in the air. Mocked up a position for the remote oil filters. Drained the engine oil, so many little details, it's fun though. 6/18/2021 Update: Removed the old timing chain cover. 6/20/2021 Update: Made some progress today, cleaning parts and mocking up how things will fit. I attached the two fittings to the Bulltear adapter, I forgot what the third threaded hole is for. ?? The Meziere block off plate looks good on the nickel plated timing cover. That's all for today, I need to buy some bolts. The stained intake manifold is starting to bother me, I am going to try and clean it on the engine, I don't feel like taking it off. Tom

Happy Day! I found a used pair of Edelbrock shorty headers in good shape on Craigslist for $300 including shipping. The seller was a solid guy and made the transaction great! These are long discontinued and will work with the Edelbrock heads. I like the thick flange. Patriot makes a shorty header that would work, but I prefer the original Edelbrock, they even have the tag with the CARB number, not that I need it, even though I live in California. Some day I would like to buy the ARH Headers and even their entire exhaust system, but that is another level of cost from what I am doing this summer. Tom

Thanks Steve, The shorty headers look easy to install, but the long tubes make more power. I'll need to have Richard's Performance Muffler make a short adapter, or maybe cut my old flange off and extend up to the shorty. A friend sent me a couple of AMX images from Cruzin Grand last night. The first one looks like Randy's. We have to get out there! Tom Edited by AMX390 - Jul/03/2021 at 9:27pm |
