I just installed a  new Holley Street Avenger 350 Carb for my 68 Rebel with the 290 V8. The original carb broke but the engine ran when I took it off, now with the new one on, I cant get the car to idle for longer than 10 seconds max. I've tried the speed screw, the air fuel ratios and the fuel adjustment screw on top. Nothing has worked, any help?

Assuming that you did not change anything and still have fuel flow, it sounds like the float is not adjusted properly or is jammed for some reason.

If you did not do it before you installed it, pull the carburetor off and make absolutely certain that both butterflies are adjusted properly so that the transfer slots are not overly exposed.

Stock intake?  Leaking gasket beneath the carb or pcv hose?

Just out of curiosity, what was broken on the original carburetor?

What adapter is on there? I don't believe that the 290 intake had the later Holley/motorcraft bolt pattern.

I would take it apart and see if the float was stuck.

My 1969 Rogue had the Holley/Motorcraft pattern.
A Holley 350 and 500 2bbl bolted on with no issues.

My 70 had a factory adapter/spacer beneath the motorcraft for the early bolt pattern intake

Just because yours did, >Doesnt mean that other intakes dont have the adapter.  > 488s car did have one originally. > I think he knows what an adapter is.
