The Northwest dealers introduced this car in 1965 and sued AMC when the name came out in 66. I posted both some ads and an article somewhere

I bought a 1965 (title is 1965) American 2dr hardtop with rogue badges all over it, bucket seats with floor shifter, and console, automatic, straight 6, and an obvious not factory vinyl top i could tell was not factory when removed. Was told there was a dealer in Albany Or. called Waverly Rambler, they converted some models in 1965 before the actual 66 rogue came out from amc. Much like Yenko did with Cameros. They sued amc for the name in 66 but lost. Anybody know the truth to this? or where I can find info?

That's exactly how the story goes. Mecum had a "65 Rogue convertible" a few years back. The "Rogue" badge looks correct, but the 343 and '67 steering wheel obviously are not. Someone could have swapped in a '67 drivetrain, but why would you do that to what would be more valuable left as is? |

The car at Mecum was pieced together from about 4 different cars 20 years ago by an AMC collector in Mesa AZ. There was nothing original to the car in any way. The Portland area Rambler dealers did create the Rogue model in 1965 as a regional promotion. It is rumored that they made 100, but I believe it was an AMC sponsored promotion just like the Mariner wagon in 1967, and the Rebel Raiders in 1969. I grew up in the NW and have seen at least 6 of these 1965 Rogues over the years. I believe the Lawsuit is nothing but a tall tail (fake story).
