I need a heater core, the one I have leaks. Galvin's doesn't have them, and I can't find a generic (I have not tried exhaustively yet). It's exactly 8 x 10 x 2" thick, 5/8" outlets perpendicular.
What are you all doing for these? Is there a 'close enough' substitution? Of course I'd prefer to not modify the heater box but it's not looking good for finding a correct replacement. I'm assuming these are not easy repairs. There is no visible damage, it seems old/original, and seeping somewhere within the core. |

Thanks, but I generally can't afford Blasers! NOS is generally too rich for me, and this is a driver. I was hoping aftermarket, but may adapt...
Nick, I hadn't seen that list, thanks. The AMC parts is amusingly 8 x 10 x 2, exactly, with two hose barbs symetrically sticking up. It looks so generic I would have thought it was out of some industrial catalog. Maybe it was, but that catalog is dust now. If I can find a core that's (just) under size, I can block it out to fit the simple rectangular heater box without mods. Funny barb outlets would require a hole drill, I can live with that. But Most replacements seem oddly plumbed. I just started looking at general purpose fluid coolers from Summit, Derale etc. With AN fittings and undersized core I could fabricate tubing into barbs that pass through the stock heater box, and make some adapter inside. |
