You can use any cam you want if the heads are prepared properly

 Same car went 6.23-110 1/8 mile with a flat tappet, flat top piston. Similar flowing iron 291 head. That particular engine is in my dirt car now. The drag car tested it out. Compared to 5.95-116+ best for the roller engine in the 1/8th.
 I know nothing about the desk top dyno bs. I use what I have and actually produce an outcome. Good or bad there is always an actual product to try.

OP didn't ask about street or strip. Just how much lift? Since the street was mentioned by responders. My personal favorite street build is a stock cam and piston 360 with a holley 2bbl. In a j-20 it hauls the trailer,lawn chairs and race car just fine.
