Stripped control arm threads

Seems unreasonable to get rid of the car if these are the problem and can be replaced.

Selling the car, any prospective buyer should be made aware of the problem, just a given!

For all four to be stripped, i wonder if someone set it up wrong before. Theres a specific way those go on and of not set up properly it can cause damage to components. Tomj has a good write up on setting those up. Hears the link https://www.ramblerlore.com/AMC/index.html#FRONT

You can try welding the area where the cap fits if you have a welder and grind it out to where the trunion caps fit more snug and tack weld the cap to the control arm. Other than that best bet is buying a good used set of control arms or a nos set from an amc supplier if they have them.

Bummer. I'd replace the arms, hard to find only because people don't usually need them, they last "forever".

You also need the cupped washers they are very important. So finding n upper arm set is probably worth the effort.

From the factory the cupped washers are swaged into the bushings.

Clean those trunnions thoroughly and inspect closely. Theere can be some slop and wear on the cap threads, they don't run tight. But if the trunnion threads are badly damaged those will need to be replaced. That could be very expemaove. But they are usually good.

Amazingly Blasers has some NOS upper control arms so I'm getting a pair of them...no lowers, but hey, that's half the battle.
