Hey, all! Was interested in hearing from some people that have taken their 71-74 Javelins to the strip!
What did you run in the 1/4? Weight w/o driver? Which engine/trans? What's your gearing? |

The other end of the spectrum: 71 Javelin AMX, 401 auto, 3:54 Twin Grip rear. 100% stock. No idea on the weight. Best ET 14.31 @ 98 MPH. Usually ran mid to high 14's.

What tires did you have?[/QUOTE] First time at the drags, I had 225 70 15 bias plies on it, they were on the car when I bought it. Then it got used 215 65 15 Goodyear Eagle GT radials. Then used 255 60 15 generic radials. Currently running 235 60 15 Firestone Firehawks. Fastest ET were on the Goodyears. That was a few decades ago.

I remember 2 different magazine road tests of a 71 401 Jav/AMX back in the day. The 4 speed car ran 14.3 at 98. The auto ran 14.45 at 96+. I can't remember the rear gearing in either. Right at what Scott's 401 did.

Hi Andy, yes the POS has a New engine in it as of last fall. the 500 Indy and Liberty 5 spd. ended up with new homes. The 500 c.i. is in a local fellows 68 AMX with a Jerico. it made 880 H/P. Kevin bought the 5 spd and alum bell. I bought another Indy block and it is now 440 c.i. with a set of Sr's on it, it is in the POS now. but only got it out twice. (last season) 1st time out went to 1/8 mile track to do license runs, and i couldn't keep it off the back bumper, but made enough passes to qualify to get my license back... track owner screwed me over tho, so i need to redo the license runs... 2 weeks after that , i took it to NTR, and only made 1 pass, it went right, but i musturd a 9.91 @ 141 mph.. weather and track schedule has made it impossible to get the car out this year (so far)... hoping it will go 9.2's

Were you having tire spin issues with narrow tires like that?
