Bill I remember 15 years ago I bought a timing cover for $780 from a dealer it was a good deal at the time. Its was about the 10th one I bought in my life and at the time they were about $1200 a piece and it fit fine.

I wish more people had your luck (guys who have gotten good sticks) because we sell on average a stick a day and its from customers who have broken at least one trying to install them but the tangs are too big. 1 a day!

Thats because they were AMC parts before these forums came out. There is only one place that imports the dipsticks in the last 4 years and that is Omix-ADA. They sell to everyone including dealers. Check out part # 17424.02 it is a replica of AMC part# 3190848. I have a dipstick blueprint that was somehow added to a 390 block blueprint in 1968. (its a 1970 390 print) It even calls out AMC part # 3186928 which is a o-ring for the dipstick. LOL

It would be possible if oil pan was still off block to use a reamer to slightly enlarge tube hole in block to fit one that is a little oversize.

It's to bad that someone like Lokar doesn't make one of the flexable braided ones for the AMC V8.

The only way to go if headers are removed frequently: Cut the new tube 1" above flange, cut 2" off upper fat section of old tube, fit the bottom section into the block with the fat section started onto that section, using the dipstick to make sure the tube is positioned so the dipstick will go through the hole in the pans baffle, insert a short 5/16" bolt into the tube and drive it home ( fat section flush against the flange and the flange flush against the block). Now you have a socket to fit the upper section into that's easily removed. It won't leak and the upper bracket will keep it in place. During engine disassembly the bottom section can be removed by placing a 1/4" bolt into it and a couple of taps with a hammer. It's reuseable, just install as before.

Dennis have you ever used a Lokar dipstick? I had one in a couple of 727 trannies. It fit well and mounted well but I could never tell where the level was because the light red tranny fluid blended in with the grey plastic dipstick so well and also let the tranny fluid drip off too fast. LOL

Yeah, I have one in the 727 in my 70 Javelin and I know what you mean about being hard to read because of the color. They need to make the stick piece white or yellow or something other than grey. But they are nice pieces!

...just wondering...

Could you drill a series a VERY tiny holes in the end of the dip-stick?
