Is there an aftermarket dipstick tube that anybody has used that can be installed while the engine is still in the car?  Tube broke off at the block, took the header off and got the broken piece out with no problem. BUT, the new stock style tube that I bought  will not go in with the engine in the car. I really dont want to pull the engine. Unhappy

Use a box end wrench over the tube as a guide to put it in the hole and a tap it down with a centerpunch.

First off if you did not get the tube from Bulltear it will not fit the block. All of them even from Jeep/Dodge will not fit. I boungt 2 tubes & sticks over 10 years ago from Jeep?Dodge and they do not fit.
When installing the tube you need to have the stick in it to guide the tube in thru the baffle of the pan. I also you the valve cover bracket to help install it too.

I bought the tube from AMC parts depot. Side to side comparison and they look identical. So you think it will go in with the engine and headers on the car?

As mentioned the new tubes aren't sized correctly. If you didn't destroy the piece of the old tube that was left in the block, mic it and compare it to your new one. Heres 2 pics of a tool I made to install the tubes. With it I was able to tap a new tube into a '71 Javy with headers, I had to remove the M/C from the booster to get room. Also worked on a '68 AMX. Its made from .5x.5 inch tubing with one flat cut out. The end has a 30 degree angle cut to fit on the flange squarely.

I have never had an issues with using the factory OE Jeep dip stick tube. With the headers off I use a small pair of vise grips that I welded on a (split in half) piece of tubing to. This way you won't crush the dip stick tube. Clamp the vise grips onto the dip stick tube just above the stop flange. Insert the dip stick, and put a little antisieze on the sealing buldges then tap it in. Usually goes pretty easy. Just be sure you get the dip stick and tube past the windage tray and stay in line with the upper support bracket. The antisieze makes this job soooo much easier to do!
I just did one for a Jeep guy (77 Cherokee) the other day. He had picked up the tube at the local Jeep dealership.

And it went all the way down to the “stop flange”? If so maybe Jeep has fixed the tube to fit now.

All I can tell you is the 2 I got from Dodge/Jeep too many years ago did not fit. FYI the motors where on a stand so I could use anything to drive them in and they still did not go in. The drag motor tube is tight but my street motor tube came lose when installing the headers so I know it will leak oil.

I grind the first upset (bubble) off and file down the second one so that they are easier to install.
