Lol, I hope so too. I put a generic 10si type in my little wagon, and bearings got noisy in about a year. So I spent 75 bucks on an General Motors 10si... Ask me in a year how it went ...
They're all made in China or Mexico etc. The question is, does the American importer/dealer do and/or do quality control. That's what seems to be missing. Sheesh.

update- got alt. replaced with a reman from Rock auto. WORKED THE FIRST TIME RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX ! color me impressed. i expected to have to go through several to get one that worked

LOL , my $10 swap meet alt lasted 10 years. My partner in crime went to local NAPA got a replacement reman. It lasted about 2 hours, returned and got another BAD one. Then one that lasted about 4 weeks.
Returned and have another all under warrantee. Ask me in a few months.

There is a reason I rebuild my own rotating electrical components. I've taken apart chain store remanufactured Motorola alternators and was NOT impressed.
By the way, the charge warning light staying on after the engine is started until you rev it up a bit can also be caused by powering loads (most commonly an electric choke) off the field terminal of the alternator. You aren't supposed to do that. |
