Hi,
Long time AMC owner, first time poster.

I have a 73 AMX that lost its wire mesh grille at somepoint in its life.  I secured another.  The tub is still intact, but I"m starting to suspect the tub is directly from a 71 and may not be the original tub as I see no way to mount the wire mesh grill to it.

Can anyone describe how their mesh is bolted to the tub or send a picture?  Am I correct in thinking a 71 Javelin grille is the same piece of brittle plastic found behind all the AMX grilles from 71-74?  On that topic, my lights seem further back than I would have suspected.  The good news is one of the four upper mounting tabs is still there, which seems to be 25% more than many of you with this tub.

Thanks for any help,

willib

The mesh grill should have pins along the bottom, that align to existing holes of the tub. Some pins break off over time, from stress flex.

The top mounts at the tabs along the top. Many mesh grills have some missing, as the rivits wear from stress. They mount along the tub baffle along its edge.

Here's the upper middle mounting tab. the outer tabs are similar. I tried to get a pic of the lower pin 304 described, but couldn't get a good picture as the grill is still mounted to the car.

If you have lights mounted in the grill tub, & holes in the sides for the wires to run thru to the lights you should be good.

"Prolly" is not a word.

Awesome.  Thanks.  There are lights in there but they aren't lining up with the mesh holes so I'm fairly convinced they did find a 71 tub and just threw the lights in wherever.  Not a hard fix.
The mesh has all.the upper tabs but nothing below.  Not sure that will be critical.
