Hey guys I got the signals working again! About that brass piece on the top  slider, it is there but facing inwards. I thought it was missing too but was that way when I took the steering wheel off so that is correct the way it is. The mis matching screws is my fault. One stripped.
The plug under the dash where the wires from the signal switch had two crossed wires. I must of did that. Funny how you remember things. I did hit the steering wheel but thought the signals acted up right away. I must have fooled under the dash with that plug when checking the hazard light switch connections and hooked them back up wrong. Idiot I'm lol. Anyways thank goodness I don't have to buy a new switch as they are expensive and with the exhange rate to Canada, shipping and then duty, it adds up to a lot. All need now is a new signal cam and I'm getting that locally. Waiting on a new master cylinder and front end work and she will be back on the road after sitting for 22 years.
Thanks to you all that chimed in offering help and suggestions.

Aha! Nice when it's something ultimately simple like that. Congrats on finding it.
